Economic troubles are main agenda in Washington, D.C., Carson City

WASHINGTON — Greetings, Early Liners. So much legislating, so little time. Both Washington and Carson City are on a crash-course this week to fix the economic troubles before them.

In Washington, Congress returns for what is expected to be its final workdays of the year to try to broker a bailout deal for the Big Three automakers. Our colleagues in Carson report the special session is getting underway to stare down the state’s $342 million shortfall.

Everyone, it seems, is waiting for everyone else to blink.

Will Washington form a coalition to save GM, Ford and Chrysler? Will Carson agree to a proposed borrowing plan or new taxes?

We should know in a matter of days, if not sooner.

Lots of interesting reads in the weekend papers. Be sure to check out Patrick Coolican’s piece on risk taking a holiday, the RJ’s report on the Nevada state Republican Party pulling up stakes, and the RGJ noting what a difference six months makes when it comes to the tenor of special legislative sessions.

That's it for now. Check back often for updates on political news in Nevada.
