Pro-Harry Reid group out with radio ad touting Scott Ashjian

Patriot Majority, the pro-Harry Reid independent expenditure group, is out with a new ad on conservative radio in Reno designed, in part, to push voters toward Tea Party of Nevada candidate Scott Ashjian.

The ad ostensibly attacks Republican Sharron Angle for attempting to make a “backroom deal” to get Ashjian out of the race. It labels her as “just another politician,” while casting Ashjian as a reasonable alternative for voters fed up with politics as usual.

The ad mentions Ashjian by name four times, calling him the “tea party guy.”

“Scott Ashjian is still running against Angle and Harry Reid,” one of the characters in the ad says.

“I thought Sharron Angle was going to be different,” one of the characters in the ad says.

“Nope, just another politician out for herself,” the second character answers.

The ad makes a point to say: “Scott Ashjian is still running against Angle and Harry Reid.”

Craig Varoga, who runs Patriot Majority, cast the ad as anti-Angle, not pro-Ashjian.

“We have an anti-Angle radio spot that criticizes her for four things: One, getting caught on tape trying to do a backroom deal; two, saying rape victims should make a lemon situation into lemonade; three, being a typical politician out for herself; and four, for having a lot of crazy dangerous ideas that could hurt people,” he said in an email statement.

Angle met with Ashjian late last month in an attempt to get him to drop out of the race and back her. During the meeting, she says she would share her influence as a U.S. Senator with Ashjian and brags about the “juice” she has with conservative members of the Senate.
