Welcome to the Damon Political Report, a new addition to the Sun's political coverage.

This election year promises to be unlike any other in Nevada's storied political history. Voters in this state will decide the future of one of America's most powerful politicians. A new governor will emerge to helm the state at a time it faces its most crippling revenue shortfall. And a slew of new legislators will be sent to Carson City to have the final say on how that shortfall is resolved.

Visit the Damon Political Report for the latest on breaking news in Nevada's political arena, a bit of analysis and the insider scoop on what's happening this election cycle.

Also, watch the Sun's site in coming weeks for additional political blogs as the Sun continues to build its political team and its online presence.

By way of introduction, I'm Anjeanette Damon. I've been a journalist in this state since 1998, when I graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno. I covered statewide politics and the Legislature for six years at the Reno Gazette-Journal. I'm excited now to join the Las Vegas Sun, a newspaper I've long admired for its dedication to strong journalism.
