Burdon declares War again

Original War lead vocalist Eric Burdon will reunite with the group for a tour beginning April 29 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, this according to Lonnie Jordan, the last original member who's still with the group.

Burdon, who once crowed that he was "an overfed, long-haired leaping gnome," is now 66.

A native of Newcastle, England, Burdon was lead singer for the Animals from 1962 to 1966 -- that's him on the hit "House of the Rising Sun" -- and the New Animals (which for a time included guitarist Andy Summers, who went on to greater fame with the Police).

Burdon had a number of psychedelic solo hits ("Sky Pilot," "San Franciscan Night") before he hooked up with harmonica player Lee Oskar in Southern California in 1969. They formed War, which blended R&B, jazz and Latin in a funky sound. Burdon was the lead singer on such hits as “Spill the Wine” and “Tobacco Road.”

Jordan, who plays keyboards and sings, tells the Sun it will be a lengthy tour, but he doesn’t know how lengthy.

“We’re still working it out,” he says.
