NASCAR announced this afternoon that Jeremy Mayfield’s drug test from July 6th was positive for methamphetamine. Here is the story from the Associated Press.
Mayfield's lawyer is now claiming that a separate test taken within an hour of the first test on July 6th was negative for methamphetamine. Here is the latest information from Scenedaily.com.

I am completely against drug use especially Meth and race car driving this man needs intervention now. This drug is deadly so to is Nascar, terrible mix.
To Jeremy Mayfield; get help. I'm thankful that no one got hurt on or around the track as a result of your irresponsible actions.
To Na$car and Dr. Black; OK, you got it right. Now take what you can learn from this chapter and improve the procedures.

Now, can we get back to racing?
Good grief, to meth or not to meth, who cares anymore? I'm not a Judge, but Mayfield is done, that's all that matters here. He was already just a bit player, so now he is most likely gone forever, big deal.
I am not the greatest fan of rocket_car but I sure agree with, "Now, can we get back to racing?" The hell with Mayfield!!
For Nascar to have any credibility this guy needs to be banned for life.
There is a simple solution to all this, have him pee in a cup in court, have it tested by a court appointed lab.If he s still dirty, kick him out.If it comes back clean, than sounds as if nascar is hideing something?Nascar has more to loose than Mayfeild.
mayfield probably will have a part in next years BREAKING BAD on hbo
