Firefighters respond to reports of smoke at Starbucks, Trader Joe’s stores

Las Vegas firefighters responded to calls this morning at a Starbucks coffee shop and a Trader Joe’s grocery store, but no fire was discovered at either business, officials said.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue tweeted about 7:10 a.m. that there was smoke coming from the Trader Joe’s at 7575 West Washington Ave., near Summerlin Parkway. The smoke was coming from a compressor in a refrigerator that overheated or burned out, but there was no fire, officials said.

Crews assisted in turning off the power, fire department spokesman Tim Szymanski said. Nobody was injured.

About 90 minutes later, crews responded to reports of smoke at the Starbucks at 7170 N. Durango Drive, near Elkhorn Road. A bush outside the coffee shop had caught fire, but the flames were out by the time firefighters arrived about 8:40 a.m., Szymanski said. Nobody was hurt, he said.
