Harrah’s Entertainment officially assumed ownership of the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino today. The Nevada Gaming Commission unanimously approved the takeover Thursday.
Harrah’s now owns nine Strip properties, including Caesars Palace, Harrah’s Las Vegas, Paris, Bill’s Gamblin' Hall and Saloon, Bally’s, Imperial Palace, the Flamingo, O’Shea’s, Rio and now Planet Hollywood.
The casinos have a combined 25,000 employees, with about 2,300 employees at Planet Hollywood. Harrah’s executives said Thursday the company will be looking to fill about 40 new jobs at Planet Hollywood.
Harrah’s said in a news release today that it expects its players club program to be integrated into Planet Hollywood’s by April.
Planet Hollywood has about 2,500 rooms and more than 100,000 square feet of casino space in the main property. Planet Hollywood recently opened its PH Towers by Westgate project in December, a non-gaming, 52-story residential and hotel tower with 1,200 suites.

Jeez, they could run a elevated tram down the east side of the strip to connect all their properties now...
Great, this monopoly takes over another casino and going to stick it to the players with thier 83% machines
And the firings, terminations and 'consolidation' has begun - I just lost half my department this afternoon...
PH employee...for now
Harrahs is paying pennies on the dollar for their debt. Harrahs is laying of employees at every whim. NGC votes unanimously to grant Harrahs takeover of PH, eliminating more competition. Harrahs operates 50% of Strip casinos. What's wrong with this picture? How is this good for Las Vegas? How is this good for anyone except that fat pig at the top?
Planet Hollywood was being run into the ground. Bad management caused this. I'm glad Harrah's took over and saved the property. I am sure they will turn it around and make it profitable.
VegasM sorry about your department. But how could you not think some consolidation would be made after the terrible management previous to the Harrah's takeover?
it's not a monopoly. when you say that, you look stupid.
you can lose your money at the wynn, venetian, tropicana, riviera, poker palace, the cannery, and others.
if anything, it MIGHT be a oligopoly, but it's not a monopoly...so stop saying it is.
When does Harrah'$ announce 4/5 blackjack?
Coming soon... 1:1 blackjack, triple zero roulette, and 1x odds on craps!
and 4-5-6 jacks or better with 2000 coins awarded for the Top Winner, Royal Flush, are already in production. PH is the first hotel on the Strip to get these nasty machines. That's what I heard...
Did they move Rio to the Strip since I was there in December? The article calls it one of 9 Strip properties.
PH will be a good fit for Harrah's "something for everyone" marketing.
PH = young and hip.
Flamingo = Historic Las Vegas
IP = something for the budget minded (something that LV is seriously lacking).
Paris markets to the gay community.
Rio is for upper middle class.
Caesars is for upper upper class.
Bills and O'sheas are for people who don't like the big places.
Harrahs is middle priced.
Ballys...just because....
They just need a locals place to have it 100% covered.
If Harrah's didn't have so much debt to pay off, it could make all of these places "fun gambling" venues. Do you think people of financial means like getting ripped of?
("fun gambling venues" means you actually win or break-even.")
Great, Evil Harrah's takes over another hotel. Does anyone know when Harrah's will update the Flamingo? The decor in there looks like something from the movie Casino. The sports book has tube TV's and old projection big screens. Pathetic.
Next time you go to the Flamingo ask the waitresses and dealers when the place is getting imploded. They get really annoyed by that.
If you think Harrah's Entertainment (actually private equity $$$) cares about its customers or employees, you're sadly mistaken. How can they be losing money when they've laid off so many "workers"? Loveman gets his multi-millions, the employees get laid off and the customers are treated like crap. The joke, back of the house, with all the problems you folks don't even know about, is...gees, this would be a good place to open a hotel/casino! I don't blame people for not coming here, the workers who've made the corporation billions are getting laid off, those who remain are being treated like slaves and the management heads rake in the dough. Let them fail. They'll just take their multi-millions back east from whence they came, like Don Marindino. They leave nothing in Las Vegas. But, for some of you, that's President Obama's fault. Are you really that stupid?
All of Nevada will end up paying for the Harrahs mees. What a shame how they are destroying the gaming experience.
I hope that Harrah's does not make the same mistakes they did with the Rio. The Rio was once "young and hip" too!
Hey Gary, Wake the f*** up.
Nobody in the history of the "Planet Hollywood" brand, not even Bruce, Sly or the Govenator has been able to make a go of this brand.
If this works, you might want to consider running for Harry Reid's seat and making this country work. You're not a conservative are you? If so, nevermind.
If you're even a moderate, whatever, I'd move to Nevada just to vote for you. But if PH flops, you can always move the WSOP there. Yep, that'll do it.
Is that property built on an old Indian burial ground or something...it has been cursed since day one with one financial blunder after another.
Does that mean slurring "Rocky" Stallone won't be allowed on the property any longer?
I stay at MGM/Mirage properties any way. Always the BEST!
Planet Hollywood is in a better situation now. Job or no job; its an easy choice. And to the people talking about the bad luck surrounding this property, you probably believe in voodoo dolls too.
will I be able to use my harrah's card at planet hollywood ?
