Letter to the Editor:

This violence is scripted, and real

Donald Trump, for a short while, appeared on professional wrestling shows. He and WWE chief Vince McMahon staged some matches between themselves to excite the crowd — in business suits, no less.

Of course it was entertaining, and of course it was all fake threats and fake violence. But Trump loved it and the pro wrestling fans loved Trump. He had found his true, unsophisticated audience, and being the narcissistic opportunist that he is, he has played to that audience again and again with great success.

Only now the stakes are much higher and the consequences more serious. His naive followers believe his lies and threats; people go to jail; people die. Trump knows this yet he continues with his violent threats of a “bloodbath” if he’s not reelected.

He knows his followers take these threats seriously and that they’re often bitter and willing to engage in violence. Witness the Capitol riot of Jan. 6, 2021. He won’t stop even if more people are injured.

Now is not the time to risk putting someone like Trump back in the White House.
