Letter to the Editor:

Red Rock Canyon must be better protected

Red Rock Canyon is becoming trashed. Oak Creek other area canyons are littered with toilet paper and feces, and visitors are destroying the canyon vegetation with uncontrolled path-making. Portable bathrooms and clearly delineated paths should be minimal requirements for a national resource.

The Bureau of Land Management charges entry fees to the park visitor center, which is the least important part of the canyon.

Some serious effort is needed to protect the true value of the canyon. Permit fees and forms placed in lock boxes at the canyon entries (as used at various state parks) would help fund the changes needed to protect our precious national resource.
