Blair Thayer’s fumble return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter were the winning points for the Palo Verde football team in a 21-18 win at Legacy.
Thayer also had a 12-yard touchdown run, and Jacob Fields got a touchdown pass from sophomore quarterback Crew Dannels.
“He’s just a football player,” Palo Verde coach Joe Aznarez said of Thayer. “Whatever we need from him — offense or defense — he will give it to us no matter what.”
Palo Verde secured the No. 3 seed in the playoffs and will play at Desert Pines next week. Desert Pines lost a close game, 16-7, against Liberty.
“They are going to be angry and upset. We’ll have to play well against a good team,” Aznarez said.
