North Las Vegas man identified as victim in Flamingo Road fatality

Fatal accident

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has identified a delivery truck driver killed Sunday morning when a sport utility vehicle slammed into his truck near the Las Vegas Strip.

North Las Vegas resident Ricardo Martinez, 43, died of blunt force trauma to his head and chest, the coroner said. His death was ruled an accident.

The head-on collision happened at 3:39 a.m. at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane, Metro Police said.

The preliminary investigation indicates the delivery truck was stopped at an inside left turn lane on eastbound Flamingo Road at the intersection, police said. A 2009 GMC Yukon Denali traveling west on Flamingo Road struck the delivery truck, police said.

Paramedics pronounced Martinez dead at the scene, police said. The 20-year-old man driving the SUV suffered minor injuries and was transported to University Medical Center along with his three passengers, who suffered moderate to severe injuries, police said.

The accident remains under investigations. No arrests have been made.

The accident marked the 51st traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year.
