Fatality accident

Two men died Thursday morning when three vehicles collided near the UNLV campus, Metro Police said.

Metro spokesman Bill Cassell said the accident happened at 9:22 a.m. at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Swenson Street.

It appears two vehicles collided and then rolled, with one vehicle ending up back on its wheels, Cassell said.

Witnesses told police that a 2007 Hummer speeding eastbound on Flamingo Road ran a red light and slammed into a 2010 Toyota Corolla in the intersection, police said.

The Hummer then hit a Chevy van that was turning into the intersection carrying three people, police said.

A 58-year-old Las Vegas man driving the Hummer was ejected once his vehicle rolled onto its roof, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Toyota driver, a 26-year-old Las Vegas man, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the driver and two passengers of the van were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

These are the 31st and 32nd traffic-related fatalities in Metro’s jurisdiction this year, police said. The collision remains under investigation by Metro’s accident investigation section.
