Man dies in motorcycle, Hummer crash

A 21-year-old motorcyclist is dead tonight after colliding with a Hummer near Charleston Boulevard and South Jones Boulevard.

Metro Police responded to the crash at 4:40 p.m. near the intersection of Evergreen Avenue and South Jones Boulevard, officials said.

According to police the 2006 Hummer H3 traveling southbound on Jones Boulevard was turning east on Evergreen Avenue when the 2008 Honda CBR motorcycle traveling northbound on Jones entered the intersection and struck the passenger side of the Hummer.

The man driving the motorcycle was transported to University Medical Center Trauma and was pronounced dead by medical officials at 5:01 p.m., officials said.

The 67-year-old driver of the Hummer sustained minor injuries, police said.

This is the 54th traffic related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction this year, police said. The crash is still under investigation.
