The lineup for the seventh annual Dam Short Film Festival in Boulder City has been announced and this year’s event is on track to welcome a record number of entries, with screenings of more than 130 films scheduled.

The festival runs from Feb. 9-12. Admission is $6 for a program, which includes five to six films, or four-day passes are available for $50. All screenings will be held at the Boulder Theatre, 1225 Arizona St.

Most films run about eight minutes.

Lee Lanier, who founded the festival with his wife, Anita, said this year will be "a little bigger and a little better" and will feature about 20 more films than in previous years. The entries touch on all genres: drama, comedy, science fiction, horror, animation and documentary, he said.

"You have a huge selection," Lanier said. "People usually find something they love."

Trained in animation, Lanier said he started the Dam Short Film Festival after years on the festival circuit promoting animated films he had worked on. At this year's show, he will screen "Blood Roulette," his first live-action short starring Jenny Savage and Steve Benetier.

Although much editing remains in the next month, Lanier said the sci-fi horror film "follows the exploits of Mary, a night-shift nurse who comes home to discover her husband acting strangely."

Proceeds from the screening of “Blood Roulette” will be donated back to the festival, Lanier said.

Two competitive programs will highlight local talents. The "Nevada Filmmakers" showcase will be held Feb. 11 and feature "up-and-coming Las Vegas filmmakers," Lanier said. The "Best of AI" program on Feb. 10 will include students and faculty from the Art Institute of Las Vegas.

Other events include a "Modern Romance" program on Feb. 12, where the first 20 couples will receive a free box of Valentine's Day chocolates, and the Film Market, which will have more than 1,000 short films available for check out throughout the weekend.
