Man fatally struck while trying to cross Flamingo Road identified

A 44-year-old man killed after being struck by a car while crossing Flamingo Road against a traffic signal early Saturday has been identified as Peter Callaghan, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

The coroner ruled his death from multiple blunt force injuries an accident.

Metro Police responded at 3:46 a.m. Saturday to the collision at Flamingo Road and Swenson Street. Police said a 2007 Lincoln Town Car was westbound on Flamingo approaching Swenson on a green light.

Investigators said Callaghan was trying to cross Flamingo from the south side to the north side against a traffic signal. He was struck by the Lincoln and taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where he died.

The driver of the Town Car, Sharon Smith, 66, of Las Vegas, wasn't injured.

This is the 60th fatal traffic-related incident this year in Metro Police jurisdiction.
