A 50-year-old bicyclist killed Friday in North Las Vegas after a collision with a truck has been identified as Maria Nunez de Mendez, according to the Clark County Coroner's Office.

Nunez de Mendez, of Las Vegas, died from multiple blunt force injuries and suffocation due to entrapment under the vehicle, the coroner said.

Police responded at 2:37 p.m. Friday to the accident in the 1800 block of West Craig Road and found the woman pinned under a Toyota Tundra truck, officials said. Emergency medical personnel arrived and pronounced her dead at the scene, police said.

A preliminary investigation shows the 26-year-old motorist, from North Las Vegas, was exiting the private drive of a commercial parking lot and tried to make a right turn onto Craig Road, police said.

At the same time, the woman was riding her bike on the sidewalk and was struck as she tried to cross the private drive, police said.

Nobody has been charged in the accident and police are continuing to investigate who is at fault. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor, police said.

This was the eighth fatal traffic collision in North Las Vegas this year.
