A 78-year-old woman died after two vehicles collided Sunday afternoon near the intersection of Eastern and Serene avenues in the southern valley, Metro Police said.

Lt. Ted Snodgrass said the accident involving a black 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck and a white 1995 Nissan Maxima happened at 3:07 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Serene Avenue.

Police said the Nissan Maxima turned left across the westbound lanes of Serene Avenue and was hit by the Dodge Ram.

The woman driving the Nissan Maxima was taken to University Medical Center's trauma unit, where she was pronounced dead, Snodgrass said. The 38-year-old male driver of the pickup truck suffered minor injuries, police said.

Police cordoned off the westbound lanes on Serene Avenue west of Eastern Avenue as they investigated the crash. The Clark County Coroner's Office will identify the victim.

The accident is under investigation. It is the 74th fatal traffic accident in Metro's jurisdiction this year.
