More than 300 inmates at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs receive adult education and vocational training from the Clark County School District through a partnership with the Nevada Department of Corrections. First-year Clark County Schools Superintendent Dwight Jones took a tour of the classroom facilities at the prison, about 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas, on Feb. 24, 2012.

A state corrections officer was arrested today after an investigation by the Nevada Department of Corrections, according to a department news release.

LaWayne Hardiman was booked into Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of two counts of bribery of a public official and six counts of attempt to furnish a cell phone to a state prisoner.

“The arrest came as part of a statewide initiative, in cooperation with Governor Joe Lombardo’s Office, to crack down on contraband in an effort to promote the safety of officers, staff, offenders and the community,” department Director James Dzurenda stated.

Hardiman was originally employed by the Nevada Department of Corrections as a trainee in December 2020 and resigned as an officer in February 2022. It was not stated where he had served.

He was reinstated as an officer on Oct. 16, 2023, with a one-year probationary period.

He was terminated from his employment after today's arrest.
