Why is my Medicare paying for less?
Analysis done in December 2007 found that Medicare routinely overpays for necessary medical equipment. These overpriced items strain the taxpayer dollars which fund Medicare and result in less coverage for those using Medicare. A Sun editorial Paying too much in February of 2007 delves more into this issue. Similarly, Medicare is not keeping up with the rising cost of prescription drugs. The Consumers Union found that 75 percent of Medicare drug plans were hiking the cost of prescriptions needed by seniors. At two or three times the rate of inflation, most insurance companies are still annually increasing the price of drugs. These issues are paramount to why Medicare beneficiaries are paying more.
