Why is our state 48th in education?
Nevada was named 45th in spending per pupil and given an "F" when it came to the student-teacher ratio. Many believe this has a a direct correlation to the state's low graduation levels and performance during testing.
Outside of lack of funding, the ability to obtain well-paying jobs without a high school degree has been another possible explanation of high drop-out rates in the state. Although the Bush Administration's No Child Left Behind Act gives students at struggling schools the option to attend schools outside of their original school zone, the option hasn't been widely utilized by parents.
