  1. To Dana,
I couldn't help notice your glaring omission of "Not" adding "Police Officers" that might have substance abuse problems to the list of professions that have life changing involvement with the general public. My question to you is Why? If you believe that drug abuse doesn't exist in the police department, please allow me to correct that belief. Granted once a police officer is identified as having a drug abuse problem, they are pretty much finished in the business regardless if they are cured or not. I attribute a lot of this drug abuse to pre-employment standards that have lately been relaxed to get more police applicants. I am just old school police. When I first applied there was a zero tolerance requirement regarding drugs and a limit on alcohol use. Now-a-days they allow previous drug use as long as it was a long time ago (5 or more years) and only under experimental circumstances and not inhaling, and they wonder why there is a problem. Just a old veteran cop reflecting,

    Gordon Martines
