Tis the season to be jolly … it’s the most wonderful time of the … hey, wait a moment. It’s only May. What’s going on?

Those elves at our Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority have created a new holiday season for the middle of summer, and Santa’s helpers tell me that out-of-towners in key tourism feeder markets are having fun with the new campaign.

Here’s a sneak preview at the department store shopping craziness with Wayne Newton and a carol-singing troupe led by a Las Vegas lounge singer at the piano: Frankie Moreno? And a neighbors-outdo-each-other-contest to see which garden best replicates the Bellagio Fountains and the Caesars Palace sculptures.

The new campaign is all about our pools, parties, shopping and shows. An online promotion can win “Naughty or Nice” trips to the Strip, and there will be live carol events in key cities.

It’s not “What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas,” but if you can have potential visitors coast-to-coast humming Las Vegas carols all day long in the heat of summer, then it’s another successful campaign.

We’re decked out, and a-caroling we will go!
