Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Robin Leach
It’s a knockout weekend and not just because fight fans expect Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. to deliver a winning punch against Marcos “El Chino” Maidana in their 12-round world championship battle at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
It’s a knockout also because of rap mogul Snoop Dogg launching his Snoopadelic Speakeasy and rappers including Ludacris, Puff Daddy, Wale and Kendrick Lamar hosting after-fight parties.
The continuing fight to knock out AIDS takes center stage seconds before midnight with Jai Rodriguez (“Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”) hosting the fifth-annual Broadway Bares benefit at Planet Hollywood. Titled “Got Wood,” the signature fundraiser directed by former “Peepshow” at Planet Hollywood star Paula Caselton features performers from all our Strip shows and singer-songwriter Matt Zarley.
Other AIDS weekend events include a screening of the Oscar-winning film “Milk” and Sunday’s AIDS Walk with more than 12,000 following grand marshals Penn & Teller. Josh Strickland will sing the national anthem to start the walk, with cast members of “Absinthe,” “Vegas Nocturne” and “Panda” performing along the UNLV route.
For horse race fans, it’s the Greatest Two Minutes in Sports with the 140th Kentucky Derby. Harrah’s headliner magician Mac King holds his annual Kentucky Bar-B-Q party, so savor a mint julep and wonder at the outrageous ladies hats. Can Commanding Curve or Harry’s Holiday pull off the 50-1 long shot, or will Danza shine at 8-1? Friday’s $1 million Kentucky Oaks should see Untapable pull off the victory.
All this plus a giant Robosaurus that delivers the ultimate T-Rex Transformer punch. Its giant claws will strangle cars and crush them to a final death as a new attraction at the Keep Memory Alive events center for First Friday downtown. And can you believe a $,1000 croissant? That’s what Piff the Magic Dragon has in store for the crazy and curious as Rose. Rabbit. Lie launches a one-hour midnight breakfast show.
Speaking of knockouts, Holly Madison celebrated the grand opening of her 1923 Bourbon & Burlesque at Mandalay Bay on Thursday night. Our thanks to Denise Truscello of WireImage for her photo gallery.
It also is a splashy weekend with the opening of four pool parties for the summer season. Guys’ eyes may well be on porn queen Tasha Reign at Sapphire, but the girls will be all agog over Latin “The Bachelor” hunk Juan Pablo Galavis.
Now it’s time for us to make a splash and showcase the attractions of a punch-happy weekend with what we’ve come to love as the Royal Robin Rundown:

In the spirit of Venice, The Venetian is a little piece of romantic Italy right here in Las Vegas. The Venetian is an "all-suite" hotel, with rooms accented with plush linens and Italian marble. The 4,027 suites are divided into two towers: The 36-story Venetian Tower that offers guests a taste of luxurious Las Vegas and the Venezia suites, which guarantee 12 floors of high-end elegance. The top five floors are the hotel's highest level of luxury with its private access, concierge lounge, upgraded features and even a dedicated staff.
The flagship of Venetian nightlife is TAO, an ultra-hip nightclub located inside of TAO Asian Bistro. V Bar is The Venetian's super smooth ultra lounge, made by the owners of New York City's club Lotus and Los Angeles' super swank Sunset Room.
