It’s one of the most ambitious and unique sports events to ever be planned for our city: A nighttime, 3.6-mile, off-road track to be built around Las Vegas Motor Speedway tied to the huge Specialty Equipment Market Association trade show headed into our sprawling convention center Nov. 4 for four days.

A massive 70,000-square-foot desert-racing exhibit also will be set up outside the convention center’s South Hall with dozens of trophy trucks, transporters , pit crews and race vehicles with leading drivers and race companies. More than 130,000 convention delegates from more than 100 countries are already registered to attend.

SCORE International is bringing the thrill of its legendary Baja 1000 flagship event to Las Vegas and SEMA for the first time — all to be televised to more than 100 countries by CBS Sports Network as a one-hour special to air Dec. 21, exactly one week before the brutal Baja race.

The 3.6-mile track at LVMS will incorporate off-road, dirt and asphalt elements using two courses and require drivers to turn on their lights to qualify in the Las Vegas darkness.

“The SEMA show is the ideal venue to share our Baja 1000 event with the world,” said Roger Norman, CEO of SCORE. SEMA President Christopher J. Kersting added: “ The Baja 1000 represents the top tier in the industry. Its partners and racers bring an unsurpassed level of talent.

SEMA was founded in 1963 with its first show debuting in 1967 and is one of our city’s largest convention gatherings. SCORE is the world’s foremost desert tracing organization now in its 41st season with five grueling race events in Mexico and the U.S. every year.

Las Vegas: The Game

Las Vegas: The Game

NEW REALITY TV SHOW: Since “Las Vegas: The Game” was launched this year as the ultimate prank to play on fun-seeking visitors, it has become a nightlife sensation blurring the line between fiction and reality. I first wrote about the innovative twist of a luxury bus tour running into spontaneous customized situations in April.

Now Langley Productions, producers of the long-running reality-TV show “Cops” on Fox, have signed a contract with pranksters Chad Hardy and Justin Oswald to develop their parties into a reality TV show. Here’s a YouTube sizzle reel for the potential series.

MORE FILMING: LeVar Burton and “The Reading Rainbow” crew wrapped two days of filming at Treasure Island with the cast of Cirque du Soleil’s “Mystere.” LeVar chatted with cast members and dressed in some of the show’s costumes.

The video field trip will post to “The Reading Rainbow” app at a later date. Last month, a Kickstarter campaign launched to raise funds to expand the availability of “Reading Rainbow” to more digital platforms and quickly reached its goal of $1 million in donations.

DOG WHISPERER: Cesar Millan is held high as the pre-eminent authority in the field of dog rehabilitation, and he’s bringing his “Leader of the Pack Live” to the Palms on Aug. 15. However, starting today his team begins auditions for misbehaving, obsessed, hyperactive dogs and puppies living in Las Vegas. The National Geographic TV star with 25 years experience of working with canines will demonstrate his secrets to solving dog behavioral problems at the show.

No dogs other than approved service animals and those chosen for casting will be permitted, so don’t show up in August expecting instant salvation for your pet. Go to CesarsWay.com/CesarinVegas for details of the audition process.

MAGIC SLOT MACHINE: A David Copperfield slot machine is set to be unveiled by the MGM Grand headliner and executives from Bally Technologies on Thursday. The newly installed “Magic of David Copperfield” machines at MGM Grand are the first in Nevada.
