The annual festival of flesh, carnival of carnal and parades of pulchritude are hours from invading Sin City. The wait is over, and the 31st annual Adult Entertainment Expo, fan fest, novelty convention and AVN awards that’s become a $10 billion-plus business saturate the Strip beginning Wednesday.
Today, the sexy starlets, busty blondes, bare brunettes, racy redheads and their producers, directors and partners begin arriving for the third year at the Hard Rock Hotel for four days of business meetings, product introductions and provocative parties.
AVN/AEE is the largest annual gathering of the industry’s leaders, hundreds of the world’s most accomplished sex stars and the fans who adore them. It is the world’s most reported on event in porn-industry history with 300 performers set to walk the red carpet and battle for 100 awards for achievements in “the business of pleasure” — Best New Starlet, Best Romance Release, Best Group Sex Scene, Bestselling DVD, Most Outrageous Sex Scene, and others that have just burned my keyboard.
Revel in the ribald at this cavalcade of cleavage where lusting for the lewd is leather and latex lawful. Get up close to your favorite femme fatale baring her ample assets. There is no such thing here as an accidental wardrobe malfunction; it’s exposure of erotica beyond the limits. Play Porn Star Beer Pong, sing Porn Star Karaoke or mingle with the S&M mistresses if you dare explore the upstairs Lair at the Joint for the kinkiest creations and deviant delights imaginable.
For the first time at AEE, there’s extra sizzle with six topless “X Burlesque” dancers from Flamingo presenting daily daytime shows during convention-floor hours. New this year also is an exclusive screening of the blockbuster big-budget “Underworld” from Wicked Pictures. Director Brad Armstrong will screen it on Thursday in Vinyl at the Hard Rock, and then co-stars Jessica Drake and Asa Akira will hold a Q+A with attendees.
The red ribbon-cutting ceremony takes place Thursday morning at the entrance to the Joint in the Hard Rock. Girlfriends Films sexy starlets Tasha Reign, Bree Daniels, Tanya Tate, Dana DeArmond, Aaliyah Love and Prinzzess will wield the scissors.
No less than 10 supersized parties are on tap for the porn-world stars and the delegates of decadence over the next five nights:. Check Vegas DeLuxe daily for the night’s rundown.
Lavo’s kickoff party at Palazzo starts Wednesday, while Naughty Circus with Jayden James, Bonnie Rotten and Samantha Bentley swings at Body English and the Naughty Show plays at Hard Rock. StripLV Magazine celebrates its anniversary issue with naked models Nicole Aniston, Elle Alexander, Chloe Amour, Kendall Karson, Cassie Lane, Giselle Mari, Alyssa Branch and Remy LaCroix hosting at Club Paradise and presenting their new immersive show “Masque.” The Novelty Expo presents its own “O” Awards Wednesday night, while HBO sex starlet Katie Morgan, inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame last year, hosts at Crazy Horse II Gentlemen’s Club.
On Thursday, Sapphire, the world’s largest men’s club, starts three nights of AVN after-parties with hosts Lexi Belle and Misty Martinez on Thursday, Isis Love and Kendra Lust on Friday and Alli Haze and Tori Black on Saturday. Adult superstar Tera Patrick will debut her burlesque performance at 1OAK in the Mirage, while Wicked Pictures contract stars Jessica Drake, Stormy Daniels, Kaylani Lei, Samantha Saint and Asa Akira host at Haze in Aria.
The second-annual porn star white party is set for Friday in Body English, and the official Wicked stars awards after-party is Saturday at Vanity in the Hard Rock, while sex goddess Jesse Jane hosts at Pure in Caesars Palace. Check our Weekend Celebrity Preview on Friday for all the weekend parties.
Actress-comedienne and Joan Rivers writer Rebekah Kochan will serve as the comedy co-host of the awards, with rap artist Machine Gun Kelly performing live and Evi Fox and Emily Austin serving as this year’s trophy girls. The red carpet and awards will be broadcast on Showtime, continuing its tradition started in 2008.
For more than three decades, AVN has honored the best in adult entertainment. Before there was Las Vegas, it was a small 30-person affair in February 1984 in a basement room at CES in Chicago. Then in 1986, AVN began its relationship with Las Vegas when Marilyn Chambers, Traci Lords , Seka and Ginger Lynn made headlines with their first Strip appearances at the Aladdin (now Planet Hollywood).
Then for six years, the show was at Tropicana with attendance growing eventually to 1,500 before it jumped to Bally’s in 1992 with 2,500 attending. In 1996, the return to the Aladdin marked the first TV event with PPV on the Spice Channel. In 1997, AVN moved to Riviera and by then attendance had hit 3,000. The show returned to Bally’s in 1999, followed by a six-year run at the Venetian starting in 2000.
More than 6,000 fans poured into Mandalay Bay starting in 2007 before the 2010 move to the Palms. Porn and rock merged with the arrival at the Hard Rock in 2012, and now the largest adult tradeshow of its kind has taken over the town, no longer hiding in the shadows of CES, which departed last weekend.
Ten talent agencies are flying in a record number of more than 300 porn princesses to the convention, and it’s a mind-numbing A-to-Z listing, from Alexa Aimes and Anikka Albrite to Bianca Breeze and Briana Banks onto Jessica Jaymes, Mellanie Monroe, Selma Sins, Tiffany Tyler, Victoria Vegas, Xander Xorvusa and Zoey Zexx.
Here’s the Day 1 rundown for Wednesday: Awards co-host and 2012 Penthouse Pet Chanel Preston will unveil her NakedWithChanel.com interactive experience at the start of meetings. Sexy starlets Alexis Texas, Sophie Dee, Teagan Presley, Allie Haze, Lexi Belle, Teal Conrad and Gigi Aliens will be the first up for meet-and-greet and photo-signing sessions.
Steve Orenstein, founder of Wicked Pictures and winner of the 2014 Visionary Award, will host convention activities with Jessica Drake, Asa Akira, Samantha Saint, Stormy Daniels and Kaylani Lei at his Penthouse Suite.
Demand for access by global media outlets from more than 25 countries to the Oscars of the adult industry was so large that more than 500 applications for media coverage had to be turned down. Vegas DeLuxe has photo and video coverage planned from Saturday’s gala and after-parties, so check back here Sunday and Monday for full reports.
My interview with Vivid Entertainment’s Steven Hirsch was posted early this morning, and my chat with Jessica Drake will be posted early Wednesday morning. Also on Wednesday, meet rocker Phil Varone, who runs his swingers video business from Las Vegas, and on Thursday awards co-host Chanel Preston previews the big show.

Arguably one the coolest joints in town, the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino houses some of Vegas' best entertainment, restaurants and nightlife.
At Hard Rock, it's all about the music. From the light fixtures made out of drum cymbals and guitar shaped door handles to stage costumes and tools of the trade of legendary musicians displayed on the walls, the hotel screams rock and roll. The Hard Rock's Joint has hosted some the biggest names in music — from The Who to Bob Dylan to hometown heroes, The Killers.Aside from the music venues, the pool at the Hard Rock is one of its biggest attractions. Spread out over 4.7 acres, the pool area features swim-up blackjack, a bar and grill, private cabanas, a bevy of secluded nooks, a waterfall and an extensive live music venue with a dance floor. During the summer, the pool transforms into the Rehab club on Sunday afternoons.
The resident nightclub Body English fuses European elegance with a rock star bachelor pad and it often a hot spot for visiting celebs and popular DJs. Vintage rock memorabilia lines the walls at Wasted Space, Hard Rock's anti-club.
Restaurants at Hard Rock are just as hip as the rest of the casino. Pink Taco serves up Mexican dishes, as well as a Central American and Caribbean menu. Nobu, one of five worldwide Japanese-specialty restaurants from famed Nobu Matsuhisa, satisfies a different taste. For round-the-clock cuisine, Mr. Lucky's 24/7, is sure to ease your appetite even after a Vegas-all-nighter.
