Behind the Mask
I wonder how many people in Las Vegas who support our UNLV Runnin’ Rebels have ever given a thought to the man behind the mask of the mascot Hey Reb.
Thanks to a new and original online Hulu TV series, we’re going to meet him in the behind-the-scenes adventures of the never-before-seen world of sports … team mascots.
The first three episodes will launch one week from today on Hulu and Hulu Plus and introduce us to the unsung heroes of “Behind the Mask.”
Critics who have seen previews of the 10 episodes describe the show as “funny, entertaining and at times poignant, with moving stories of real-life Clark Kents.”
Meet Jon “Jersey” Goldman, who in addition to being Hey Reb is an on-air personality at 98.5FM KLUC and the official mood director for N9NE Group at the Palms overseeing the hijinks at Ghostbar.
After six years at UNLV, he finally graduated with a degree in communications and a minor in leadership and civic engagement.
“I stayed there so long because I simply enjoyed being the mascot,” Jersey told me. He’s also the director of sponsorships at the Las Vegas Film Festival and is a Big Brother to three little sisters.
The four mascots featured in the new unique series were followed for nearly a year by Hulu cameras. “It was a great experience. I’m proud of my service to UNLV and the basketball team,” he added.
