Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip

The Cheat Day Burger — with avocado, bacon, fried pickles, grilled onions, mayo and jack and cheddar cheeses — created by Jaymes Vaughan and James Davis of Chippendales at The Rio.

The Hungro Hypno Burger -- with bacon, lettuce, pancetta, red onions, roasted red peppers and barbecue sauce -- created by hypnotist Marc Savard.

First there were 15.

But before fellow food journalists and judges Al Mancini, Grace Bascos and I arrived at Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip on Wednesday afternoon, the field in the 2013 Build Your Own Burger Celebrity Challenge had been narrowed down to five.

Mancini, Bascos and I judged the five creations in four categories: presentation, taste, creativity and most memorable. We didn’t know the IDs of the Las Vegas celebrities before diving into their bountiful burgers. Like good journalists, we just sat there and ate. And judged (I’m good at judging … everything). And ate.

Amazingly, all three of us were unanimous with one clear winner: Comedy hypnotist Marc Savard’s Hungry Hypno Burger with bacon, lettuce, pancetta, red onions, roasted red peppers and barbecue sauce. The bacon, pancetta and barbecue sauce were especially, um, hypnotizing.

However, to make matters interesting, Bascos and I also had a tie for first place alongside Savard’s super-savory sensation: the Cheat Day Burger with avocado, bacon, fried pickles, grilled onions, mayo and jack and cheddar cheeses. I love me some avocado on burgers. And fried pickles? Genius.

Cheat Day was created by cuffs-and-collar studs Jaymes Vaughan and James Davis, stars of Chippendales at The Rio and Season 21 runners-up on CBS’ “The Amazing Race.” I doubt, though, by the looks of them that J Squared ever cheat.

Now it’s your turn to weigh in and vote, a la “Dancing With the Stars.” The other three contenders are from “Jersey Boys” at Paris Las Vegas, “Million Dollar Quartet” at Harrah’s and “Rock of Ages” at The Venetian. Your vote counts!

Go to Facebook.com/HardRockCafeLasVegasStrip and vote for your favorite celebrity creation. Bummer y’all can’t sample the burgers like we did, so vote for what looks and sounds the best — plus, your favorite personality.

Voting ends Friday.
