Singer and actor Ryan Cabrera brings his guitar and spiky hair to Hyde Bellagio tonight at 9. The crooner of hits “On the Way Down,” “True,” “40 Kinds of Sadness,” “Shine On” and “I Will Remember You” answered a few questions before going unplugged with the Bellagio Fountains as a backdrop and on tour with Tyler Hilton and Teddy Geiger in May.
“True” is one of my favorite songs. What can fans expect from you at Hyde Bellagio tonight?
Well, it’s meant to be a night of cocktails and an unplugged set. These are some of my favorite sets because I get to play songs the way I wrote them ... just a guitar and me. The vibe is fun and free spirited. I don’t look at it as some rehearsed set where I know what I’m going to play and how it’s gonna go.
I kind of let the audience depict that. If someone wants to hear “True,” then I’m gonna play it. If someone wants to hear something from the new album, then I’m gonna play it. I’m easy!
You are a Las Vegas regular -- do you live here now?
I live in L.A., so it makes it all too easy to be in Las Vegas all the time. It’s one of my favorite cities to party in, obviously, and I love a town that’s always got things to do. Some of my favorite memories are from Las Vegas.
What do you like to do in Las Vegas? What do you love about Las Vegas?
Well, I’ve seen “The Beatles’ Love” show about 15 times now, so I obviously love that. I usually dip in a tattoo parlor while I’m there. I love going to the pool scene, even though I don’t think I’ve ever gotten in the pool ... hah.
I’m a big fan of the restaurants, as well, so you can’t go wrong there. I love not knowing what the hell is gonna happen on any given night when I’m there! And I love Jroc’s [Jason Craig] sexy bod.
Who are you favorite artists right now?
I’m a huge Glen Hansard fan. I’m surprisingly really into country right now ... even the cheesy kind. I love it.
What are you working on right now? Upcoming projects?
Besides working on the new album for the past six years, haha, I’ve been constantly on the road. Playing shows is what I love to do. I’ve been very lucky to find happiness in playing shows and trying to get better as a songwriter, so I have never felt the need to rush things or have to be on the radio.
All I want is to write an album that I am proud of and not what some random business dude is telling me I need to write.
Final question: Your hair is insane -- in a good way. Walk me through how you get your look.
Haha … it’s so funny ’cause it’s so normal to me. If you would have seen it in high school, you would consider this tame. Honestly, I just get bored with normal. I’ve never been one to really actually care what I looked like.
