Hot Chelle Rae Tonight Tonight
“Whoa, oh, oh … oh, oh, oh … we’re going at it tonight, tonight.” What Nashville group Hot Chelle Rae will be going at tonight is opening for Justin Bieber on his Believe Tour sold-out stop at MGM Grand Garden Arena.
Before the four guys — Ryan Follese, Nash Overstreet, Ian Keaggy and Jamie Follesse, winners of the 2011 American Music Award for Best New Artist — hit the stage, though, they took over both penthouses of Golden Gate Hotel & Casino in downtown Las Vegas on Thursday night, and their group included model Allison Harvard, runner-up of Cycle 12 of “America’s Next Top Model” and “America’s Next Top Model: All-Stars,” and her boyfriend music producer A.J. Calderon.
Ryan Follese, Keaggy and Overstreet — the 27-year-old older brother of “Glee” star Chord Overstreet — also dined at Andiamo Italian Steakhouse in the D Hotel with Harvard and Calderon and shared a photo via Instagram. The group enjoyed calamari, steak, baked lobster ziti, seafood risotto and white truffle mashed potatoes and had leftovers boxed up. Keaggy said, “The best zip sauce ever!”
Lead guitarist and backing vocalist Overstreet — he’s the one with short hair, usually always more than one color, and with tattoos on his arms and chest — answered five questions via email.
You’ve opened for Taylor Swift, Demi Lovato and, now, Justin Bieber. Who would be your dream act to tour with on the road?
At this point, it’s funny to say who our dream tour would be with when we’ve been blessed enough to be out on tour with some of the biggest and nicest artists. Taylor and Demi’s tours were unforgettable, and now the Justin Bieber tour is giving us more and more to love night after night. If I had to pick someone, I’d go with Katy Perry or Pink. Not only because they’re hot (though they are very easy on the eyes)! They have a great collection of songs under their belts and are great writers/singers/artists.
“I Like It Like That” and “Tonight Tonight” are really catchy pop songs. Who are you listening to right now?
A lot of Kendrick Lamar and A$AP Rocky. They’re doing really cool stuff as far as being creative and pushing their genre’s boundaries until they bleed over into other styles, and I always love blurred lines (the song, too, haha).
Have you been to Las Vegas before? If so, what do you like to do when you’re in town?
I’m literally sitting in a Las Vegas hotel right now. I always hit up a little bit of blackjack. Before dinner is best for me because then I have a stopping point to finish up. There are some great restaurants, like Carla Pellegrino’s Meatball Spot. Fortunately, we usually perform or at least do an appearance at a club, so it hypes up our nights, as well. Now ... I need to get out to the pool.
What can fans expect from your new album?
A lot of what we are. Fun, hype, upbeat, music to live/party/love/drive/cry/laugh to. We are for sure gonna push our style toward the future, incorporating types of music we are fans of as well as just being the 2014 model of our own selves.
Plans after the tour?
More and more touring, recording, writing and finishing up this album! It’s all so exciting. It’s almost tough to fit every part of our lives and what we do into our schedule at this point, but we’re doing it. So look out for new HCR!
