The definition of “body English” doesn’t describe the grand reopening weekend of the Hard Rock Hotel’s notorious nightclub Body English, but it sure defines what we can expect from Lady Gaga as her “Born This Way Ball” arrives at MGM Grand Garden Arena for two nights.
Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta is in The Monster Pit with some outrageous theatrical shocks and costuming, and her antics could only be topped by a fiery outburst from chef Gordon Ramsay as he brings his British invasion onto The Strip simultaneously.
Add in the annual Nevada Ballet Theater’s Black and White Ball saluting legendary Mitzi Gaynor and the crowning of a new Miss Nevada USA, and you understand why this weekend is an explosive, irregular spin and twist “on propelled objects to influence motion, moves and movement!”
It’s difficult to believe that Lady Gaga -- activist, businesswoman and philanthropist -- performed at one of President Obama’s inaugural balls in Washington, D.C., this week in an onstage duet with Tony Bennett, who at 86 is 60 years older than her. They’ve promised to do an album together after their crooning of “The Lady Is a Tramp.”
Chef Gordon Ramsay will stick to his “whites,” maybe a kilt, when he propels a red double-decker bus between his new Gordon Ramsay Pub & Grill at Caesars Palace and his new Gordon Ramsay BurGR at Planet Hollywood. U.K. rockers will be onboard to add music and mayhem to the official opening parties, and I’ll be tweeting @Robin_Leach. Gordon, in the best traditions of Sunday meals, is flying in across the Atlantic to serve roast beef and Yorkshire pudding --and Scottish salmon for the non-red meat mob.
It’s time for gorgeous Jade Kelsall to relinquish her Miss Nevada USA crown after her year of service. The 2013 pageant sashays over two days at UNLV’s Ham Concert Hall before the new winner is crowned. Actress, model and 1995 Miss USA Shanna Moakler hosts, and the judges are 2006 Miss USA Tara Conner, “Peepshow” star Josh Strickland, 2007 Miss Teen USA Hilary Cruz, hair guru to the stars Michael Boychuck, “Survivor Micronesia)” winner Parvati Shallow and actor-musician Marques Houston. They’ll party at midnight Saturday at Moon in the Palms.
At the other end of the age and beauty spectrum is the “Razzle Dazzle” salute to Mitzi at the annual NBT ball. I’ll use Twitter to post photos. Our creme de la creme social event honors the legendary dancer, singer and actress still going strong at 81 with her one-woman show.
Finally on this jam-packed entertainment marathon: the official end of Vanity and the rebirth of Body English at the Hard Rock. In the last decade, Body English reigned supreme, and its history of stars, antics, outrageous parties and sinful shenanigans are back to life with a DJ lineup and after-hours parties. This weekend, Mark Farina and Doc Martin join rap pioneers De La Soul in a year-round lineup that includes The Strokes guitarist Nick Valensi, Adam Beyer, Cut Chemist and Ali from A Tribe Called Quest. Next month: Peanut Butter Wolf, Evitan and Carlo Lio.
It’s such a Monster Pit of varied and amazing attractions, we have to dive right into what we call the weekly Royal Robin Rundown:
