Jeff Beacher's Madhouse
The fireworks began even before we reached today’s midpoint of our seven-day, stretched-out celebration spree that’s expected to draw 330,000 visitors for the welcome to 2014 screams and shouts. Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus started the nonstop carnival explosion Friday night, and it continued all weekend long with everybody from The Steve Miller Band to birthday girl Holly Madison and Robin Thicke to Brody Jenner.
Now for the last two days of the Old Year and into the first day of the New Year, it rocks on with more outrageous openings and a rich raft of singers and DJs counting down the final seconds at our nightclubs. Even Paris Hilton is here for her Las Vegas debut as a DJ, spinning a Dec. 31 set at Hyde Bellagio.
Add in the triumphant return of Celine Dion to her royal throne at the Colosseum in Caesars Palace and two nights of Maroon 5, and you know that Las Vegas is the very best Entertainment Capital of the World to sing “Auld Lang Syne” at the stroke of midnight.
If you thought showman Jeff Beacher pulled off the greatest impresario trick with Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry, Adam Lambert and more at his preview opening Friday night, think again. He tells me that he’ll have 20 celebrities in black tie for his gala opening night Tuesday, plus, a new cast and new acts joining Leonid the Magnificent and Amazon Ashley, the 7-foot-2 stripper discovered by Marilyn Manson and movie producer Bret Ratner. Now Miley has signed Ashley for her new tour starting in February in Vancouver.
The much-anticipated Rose.Rabbit.Lie opens at the Cosmopolitan thanks to the Spiegelworld producers behind “Absinthe” at Caesars Palace. Expect the unexpected from its “Vegas Nocturne” show with the twists and turns of three distinct performances amid the restaurant, bar, club and show.
Pop superstar Bruno Mars kicks off his mini-residency at the opening of the nearby new venue the Chelsea. Bruno’s concert will be live streamed onto the Cosmopolitan’s 65-inch marquee screen for Strip revelers to watch and for the skaters celebrating at Boulevard Pool’s ice rink.
NYE is a special night of female singing stars: Pint-sized Tony and Emmy winner Kristin Chenoweth headlines at Smith Center. I spoke with her in early October about the show. I’ll be there cheering her on to start my year-end celebrations.
Celine is back onstage at Caesars for the first time since the release of her new album “Loved Me Back to Life,” her first English-language recording in six years. (Might duet star Ne-Yo, who is counting down at nearby Pure, be in her audience?) Celine said: “I will still sing the songs that fans around the world love, but the new music is a natural evolution of me as an artist that I can’t wait to share with audiences.”
You can bet while back in town, she’ll pop in to see Britney Spears’ new show “Piece of Me” at Planet Hollywood. The classy Canadian sent her new Caesars Entertainment family headliner spectacular flowers for Friday night’s premiere to welcome her to the Strip.
But there is a bigger question: Just who is this mega-star mystery guest who will be at Caesars, as well, for a super-private, high-roller show pre-midnight? We’ll be reporting via Twitter and will reveal all then.
Looking for a little gold on the big night? Check out Olympic champion swimmers Ryan Lochte and Cullen Jones at the upstairs nightclub of SHe at Crystals.
It’s a homecoming for Imagine Dragons, who will be joined by Las Vegas’ Parade of Lights and The Mowgli’s at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel, but beforehand in the afternoon, band members Dan Reynolds, Ben McKee, Daniel Platzman and Wayne Sermo will unveil and dedicate a memorabilia display in the lobby. Late night, Dan promises a DJ set at nearby Body English.
And at 11:59:50 p.m., the massive $500,000 “America’s Party” fireworks display counts down to the midnight pyrotechnics. Add in the downtown Fremont Street extravaganza with hometown rocker Vince Neil, and we have one of the biggest parties in the world.
Should old acquaintance be forgot and never brought to mind? We’ll take a cup of kindness yet for “Auld Lang Syne.” Now it’s time for our own 10-9-8 countdown to zero with this overloaded New Year’s Eve edition of the Royal Robin Rundown. Proudly but humbly, although we’ve abbreviated it to names and places, I don’t think we’ve missed a thing.

We want you safe and sound for what is ahead in 2014 — and you know that you’ll read about it here first and fast.
