Fresh on the heels of being nominated this week for nine Grammy Awards, Jay Z, the king of hip hop, reigns from his throne for two nights of his “Magna Carter” tour at Mandalay Bay Events Center. The 44-year-old Shawn Carter has plenty of swagger for this four-piece-band road show.

He proves that he’s rap royalty with “Empire State of Mind,” “Encore,” “Paris” and the solo version of his “Bonnie and Clyde” duet with wife Beyonce, who was at MGM Grand Garden Arena last weekend. Jay Z (minus the hyphen now) has more than 24 of his hits in the 2-hour concert.

It also is a rock royal’s weekend with Third Eye Blind, Stone Temple Pilots With Chester Bennington and The Black Crowes vying for the spotlight with Merle Haggard, Montgomery Gentry and The Charlie Daniels Band.

The glittering glamour girls who want to be the next Miss Nevada USA will dazzle in their orientation and final sign-up at Michael Boychuck’s Lifetime Salon near Red Rock Resort in Summerlin. The last two Miss Nevada winners, Chelsea Caswell and Jade Kelsall, join Nevada pageant director Shanna Moakler, who was Miss USA in 1995. They’ll select the contestants for the Jan. 12 pageant at UNLV to determine who represents our Silver State in Donald Trump’s national pageant in June.

However, nothing will take from the bright shine of the gold buckle and big check presentations as the 2013 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo wraps its 55th annual excitement. We already reported that Trevor Brazile shattered the record to earn his 19th world championship on Tuesday night, but everybody is still at full force for tonight and Saturday’s final rounds at the Thomas & Mack.

So now it’s time to kick up our heels to polish and shine our gold attractions in our weekly edition of the Royal Robin Rundown:
