Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta
The Strip is about to get physical -- or have a heart attack -- as Australian pop legend Olivia Newton-John prepares to start a mini-residency at the Flamingo sharing alternate dates with Donny & Marie Osmond.
As far back as April 23 last year and again on Feb. 12 this year, Vegas DeLuxe reported the rumors. Now we can confirm from three sources that the news will be made official by month’s end for a summer start.
Donny and Marie have wanted to fulfill concert bookings that piled up with the success of their Strip residency. Marie’s hectic schedule of hosting her TV talk show on Hallmark and Donny’s desire to be more at home with his family in Utah have prevented the additional shows away from Las Vegas.
However, when they renewed their Flamingo contract, they were able to reduce the number of Strip dates, and that opened the way for hotel executives to firm up the contract with Olivia.
First, though, ONJ had to complete a long-booked touring schedule. She just finished last month her dream of playing London’s prestigious Royal Albert Hall. Now she’ll come to Las Vegas, fulfilling her desire to considerably -- if not completely -- cut down tour dates and headline on the Strip for at least a year.
Word is that the upcoming announcement will disclose spring and summer dates, with tickets going on sale before May 1. Expect to see longtime friend John Travolta in one of the early audiences rooting for his “Grease” and “Two of a Kind” co-star.
