Rao’s in Caesars Palace
Today is a double celebration for Caesars Palace superstar Celine Dion, and all of us at Vegas DeLuxe extend sincere congratulations to the Colosseum headliner.
When the Canadian songbird steps onstage this evening, it will be her 800th concert at the Colosseum since she opened here March 25, 2003, with “A New Day.” Also, today marks her 31st year in showbiz because on June 19, 1981, she made her first TV appearance.
Her current Caesars run, in which she was recently sidelined by a throat illness, began March 15, 2011, and a nod to Adele recently replaced a Michael Jackson medley.
TOPLESS RADIO: The cast and crew of the Playboy Radio Morning Show are set to start five days of live remote broadcasts from our adult topless pools this Sunday, and DJ host Andrea Lowell, who has appeared in several Playboy nude pictorials, promises to go topless if her guests do, too. Comedian Kevin Kline is her co-host, and the duo will kick off their daily three-hour show at Venus Adult Pool at Caesars Palace.
They move to Moorea Beach at Mandalay Bay on Monday, Artisan on Tuesday, Bare Ultra Pool at the Mirage on Wednesday and wrap it up at Voo Pool in the Rio next Thursday. Matt Goss, Nathan Burton and yours truly will be opening-day guests, and rest assured plenty of stunning Playmates including Holly Madison, Laura Croft and Jessa Hinton are stopping by during the week.
RAO’S ON INTERNET TV: For the first time in more than 115 years, Rao’s is allowing guests to catch an up-close and personal take on its family traditions. Get ready to cook! Starting today, Rao’s at Caesars Palace kicks off an exclusive new monthly series of YouTube videos featuring fun-filled tips on bocce ball, cooking, family and, of course, a spectacular tour of the Strip’s premier Italian family restaurant.
The first episode of the video series includes glimpses behind the traditions and sets the stage for future installments in a conversation with Frank Pellegrino Jr. He’s the fourth-generation co-owner of Rao’s Restaurant Group and discusses cooking secrets for the delectable signature dishes of roasted peppers with golden raisins and pine nuts and the lemon chicken. Frank’s new cook “On the Grill” also is featured. Check back later for my full interview with him about his cooking and revelations from the history of Rao’s.
TIM & FAITH DELAY: Thursday’s planned announcement to reveal the Tim McGraw and Faith Hill residency run has been postponed to a later date. The show-run is still on, but the official announcement will now come later at an official press conference. I’m assured that it’s a short delay and had only to do only with last-minute timing and travel hitches while Tim is on tour with Kenny Chesney. It prevented the reveal being pulled off exactly the way everybody wanted, so it will be rescheduled in a few weeks.
DATING UPDATE: Haze nightclub VIP hostess Shannon Kelly was selected for a date on last week’s “The Choice” on Fox. Actor Parker Young won her date over Joe Jonas, and they went for a filmed dinner at an Argentinean steakhouse in Santa Monica, Calif. That episode will air Thursday on Fox, but it won’t be until after the broadcast that the Playboy beauty gets to know if he’s planning on a follow-up.
MORE ‘DWTS’ AT TROP: Producers of “Dancing With the Stars: Live in Las Vegas” at the Tropicana officially confirmed what I’d reported several weeks ago that thanks to growing audiences and ticket demand, it will now run seven shows weekly through Aug. 5 instead of ending next week. The producers haven’t confirmed it yet, but I also understand that talks are being finalized for a new cast to return to the Tropicana for a new run once the all-star Season 15 begins Sept. 19 on ABC. There are strong insider rumors that Trop stars Carson Kressley and Joey Fatone will be part of the ABC lineup.
SPORT STARS GO BOWLING: Legendary NFL quarterback Warren Moon hosts 30-plus stars in his annual Sports Dream Bowl on Saturday at the Texas Station bowling lanes to benefit Urban Fund for inner city kids scholarships. The lineup includes Julius “Dr. J” Erving, Shawne Merriman, Marcus Banks, Robert Horry, Gary Payton, Ed “Too Tall” Jones, Michael Irvin and Willie McGinest.
WARPED TOUR SETS DOWN: With a possible 100 bands playing short sets not exceeding 30 minutes, the Vans Warped Tour is ready for its dawn-to-dark, 12-hour-plus showcase Wednesday opposite the Luxor. Check out the full list of bands at VansWarpedTour.com/bands. The tour has been making headlines for new group The Chichartones promoting their latest album “Swine Flew” of underground pop, rap and indie.
“True Blood” star Ryan Kwanten took his parents to see Blue Man Group at the Venetian and dinner at nearby Lavo in the Palazzo (as we reported Monday) on Father’s Day. Luxor headline comic Carrot Top posed for a photograph with the Stanley Cup at Score in the Luxor. Hawaiian rockers Pepper performed in the Soundwaves poolside series at the Hard Rock Hotel.
Joey Fatone and Warren Moon partied at Hyde Bellagio. Chicago Bulls shooting guard Rip Hamilton, in a diamond-encrusted necklace, partied with friends at Surrender in Steve Wynn’s Encore. BMX pro and MTV reality TV star Ricardo Laguna hosted a fiesta at Tao Beach in the Venetian, donned a sombrero and danced with his mom to the mariachi band.
Rapper Kid Ink celebrated his hit album “Up in the Air” at Lavo with dinner and then the nightclub. Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews celebrated his bachelor party with pals, including teammate Robert Francois and Owen Daniels of the Houston Texans. And celebrity magician Murray Sawchuck and his lovely, leggy assistant Chloe Louise were backstage with Frankie Moreno after his Stratosphere headliner show; the Moreno brothers had attended the conjuror’s recent Tropicana show opening.
NHL stars are out partying tonight in advance of Wednesday’s televised 2012 NHL Awards at Encore Theater in the Wynn. The private NHL party is at Surrender, but Encore Beach Club is open to the public. Over at Lavo, Henrik Lundqvist of the New York Rangers hosts a pre-party. And Bobby Collins, Helen Keany and Brett Walkow headline at the Improv at Harrah’s through Sunday.
We’ll preview the NHL Awards, chat with amazing impressionist Rich Little ahead of him taking his new LVH show to Broadway and grill on the barbecue with Frank.
