Editor’s Note: While Robin Leach takes his traditional summer vacation under the Tuscan sun in Italy, many of our Strip and Las Vegas personalities have stepped forward in his absence to pen their own words of wisdom. Our thanks to them all. The second day of guest columns starts with Flamingo headliner and pop star supremo Donny Osmond as he celebrates a banner year even after 50 years in show business.

Robin,

Thank you for the privilege to write an entry in your well-read blog.

There are a lot of wonderful things going on in my life right now; not just professionally, but personally, as well. There are a lot of significant events taking place this year, which is turning 2012 into a banner year for me.

Recently, Marie and I were awarded the “Best of Las Vegas” awards in two categories -- Best Show and Best Performers. And since the Best Singer award couldn’t go to both of us, I graciously accepted the title!

It is so much fun performing here in Las Vegas at the “Donny & Marie Show” in the fabulous Flamingo. However, that’s not my only day job (or night, seeing as the show begins at 7:30 p.m.); I also record my daily worldwide syndicated radio show here. By the end of this year, I will record my 60th album! I may even feature a guest artist or two in the mix.

Speaking of the end of this year ... beginning in December, I will celebrate 50 years in show business! When I was 5 years old, I appeared with my brothers on “The Andy Williams Show” and sang “You Are My Sunshine.” Thankfully, I’ve added a few more songs to my repertoire through the years.

As a matter of fact, this year also marks the 40th anniversary of my chart-topping hit “Puppy Love.” Here’s a little interesting trivia: People often think that “Puppy Love” was my first No. 1 single -- its not; “Go Away Little Girl” was my first No. 1 hit.

You may have noticed a trend here, which now brings us to the number 30. The closest, most important milestone to 30 I can think of is celebrating 34 years of marriage to my wife, Debbie. She is my lodestar for much of my music; she and I have five children, and we just found out that we’ll be grandparents for the fifth time this year.

My family is getting larger, and younger, every year! Which only means this grandpa needs to stay as spry as a 20-year-old. Through a steady regimen of diet and exercise, along with a dietary supplement from LifeVantage called Protandim, which I take every day, I’m staying as young as I can for as long as I can -- and I think that I’m doing a pretty good job of keeping up with my grandchildren.

Of course, there are times when my wife, Debbie, tells me to “stop acting like a 10-year-old!”

Our thanks to Donny, and be sure to check out our other guest column today from Myron Martin, president of the amazing Smith Center for the Performing Arts downtown. On Thursday, look for our Aretha Franklin and NBA Summer League guest columns.
