Earl of Sandwich opens at Palms/Richard Corey
Planet Hollywood founder Robert Earl is a master at working his celebrity black book whenever he opens a project, and on Monday two more of his Earl of Sandwich cafes opened simultaneously in Las Vegas and Atlantic City with an all-star turnout to join the 24 he already has across the country.
Whoever would have thought Britain’s humble school kids’ and working man’s lunch -- slices of meat between bread -- would have caught on so big on foreign shores? Whoever would have thought that “Peepshow” at Planet Hollywood blonde beauty Holly Madison could lead a group of celebrities Pied Piper-style to open an Earl of Sandwich at the Palms?
Company CEO Steve Heeley said this is the second Las Vegas location for Earl of Sandwich -- the first one is located at Planet Hollywood -- and they’re planning more locations for the Strip.
With the all-star turnout, one would have thought that it was a Hollywood red carpet or a casting call. Joey Fatone of ’N Sync and “Dancing With the Stars” fame (Season 4 of the ABC hit series, in which he was the runner-up with Kym Johnson, and “Dancing With the Stars: “Live in Las Vegas” at the Tropicana) was there with Holly (who competed in Season 8 with Dmitry Chaplin, who is now in the Tropicana show) to take a bite together out of the first sandwich, a chipotle chicken avocado creation.
In the celebrity crowd were “America’s Got Talent” magician Murray Sawchuck, now performing at the Tropicana with Doug "Lefty" Leferovich and Chloe Louise; “Peepshow” co-star Josh Strickland; Palace Station comedian headliner Louie Anderson; BMX rider and MTV reality TV star Ricardo Laguna; the gorgeous girls of “Fantasy” at the Luxor and the hunks of Thunder From Down Under at Excalibur; and Palms honcho George Maloof, who turned up to watch over the first-day fun.
Holly told me that she loves the Earl of Sandwich breads made from a special Earl family recipe handed down through the centuries. She “sliced” the red ribbon with Joey, joined all the stars behind the counter to sample the taste treats and then pronounced it open for business 24/7.
