Blink-182 drummer extraordinaire Travis Barker and Mix-Master Mike performed a crowd-pleasing mix of hip hop and punk rock beats that had clubgoers in a party mood that commenced at 1:15 a.m. Saturday at 1 OAK in the Mirage and continued until dawn’s early light. While in town, Travis, the ex-husband of Shanna Moakler, took his kids to Jabbawockeez’s “MUS.I.C. at the Monte Carlo, met the cast backstage after the show, posed for a photograph and went home with souvenir white masks.
Actor and self-confessed Elvis Presley fanatic Nicolas Cage watched Cirque du Soleil’s “Viva Elvis at Aria with his wife Alice and son Kal-El (the Oscar-winning actor also is a comic book fan!). He deemed “Viva Elvis” “a great show” and said that wants to bring his older son and meet the cast on the next visit. At Lavo in the Palazzo, Buddy Valastro from TLC’s “Cake Boss” and his Carlos Bakery team danced up a storm.
New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez dined family style at N9NE Steakhouse in the Palms on lamb chops, organic fire chicken, Alaskan king crab legs and Australian lobster tails, plus merlot and espresso martini shots. At a nearby table, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver and “Dancing With the Stars” champion Hines Ward was in a party of 22. And at yet another table, Ryan Sheckler, pro skateboarder and star of MTV’s “Life of Ryan.”
“The Bachelor” star and “DWTS” alumnus Jake Pavelka, in town as guest host at Chippendales at the Rio until next month, and his girlfriend Ashley Vickers had dinner at “Iron Chef” Kerry Simon’s restaurant Simon in Palms Place, where Hal Linden joined in the antics of the Sunday PJ brunch.
Sports stars are everywhere you turn on the Strip: Sanchez also was spotted at Marquee in the Cosmopolitan and Sugar Factory American Brasserie at the Paris. Mo Williams and Trey Thompkins from the L.A. Clippers were there, too. And New England Patriot defensive back Nate Jones dined at Republic Kitchen and Bar in Henderson.
