If the world doesn’t end today as the Mayan Calendar forecasts, then entertainment and partying will continue on the Strip this weekend, albeit in a much more subdued manner.
That’s not because of the doomsday prediction but because families are scurrying far and wide with Christmas travel, and our normal visitor invasion is on hold getting ready for next week’s New Year’s Eve celebration weekend insanity.
Yes, it’s the quietest weekend of the year ahead of the noisiest, but there’s still something for everybody, from the wild rap antics of Snoop Dogg to the more classical tones and holiday music of the Las Vegas Tenors. There are even “End of the World” and basketball events.
However, for music and comedy fans, you’ll have to wait until next week when Jerry Seinfeld entertains in the Colosseum at Caesars Palace ahead of headliner Celine Dion’s return.
So just in case the world doesn’t end and the curtain still goes up, gather under the mistletoe and get ready to open the brightly colored package of gifts, that we are toasting around here this with egg nog, known as the Royal Robin Rundown:
FRIDAY, DEC. 21
MUSIC & COMEDY
Nashville Unplugged features D. Vincent Williams at Red Rock Resort. The Las Vegas Tenors sing seasonal songs at South Point for two nights. And comedy headliner Kivi Rogers is at Harrah’s Improv all weekend.
OF SPECIAL NOTE
Tickets go on sale for the Who’s Quadrophenia & More Feb. 10 show at the Joint in the Hard Rock Hotel (this is an added second show due to overwhelming demand). Tickets also open up for funnyman Mike Epps’ Jan. 19 performance at the Palms and British singer-songwriter Alex Clare’s April 18 concert at Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip.
Join chef Daniel Boulud and “Dancing With the Stars” and “Sex and the City” heartthrob Gilles Marini (who was here for the Simon G Jewelry Summer Soiree in June at the Palazzo) when I MC the Culinary Clash finals at the Venetian. Two sets of chefs battle in the semifinals, and then the two winners face off in the pre-midnight finals, with the champion getting tickets for two to Italy, bragging rights and the Golden Spoon Award.
The World of Art Showcase featuring the largest lineup of modern surreal painters, sculptors and other artists is at the Wynn through Saturday night.
There’s an “End of the World Party” at Beatles Revolution Lounge at the Mirage. And Ri Ra Irish Pub in Mandalay Place celebrates the “End of the World” with two toasts -- one to celebrate Ireland’s survival and another the Strip’s survival, along with a “Last Meal” dinner if, of course, we’re still standing.
Nightlife czarina Tiffany Masters and her BucketList.com beauties host her holiday party with the girls who’ve been naughty and nice in Lily Lounge at Bellagio.
