Toby Keith Red Solo Cup
It’s a rock-and-roll, hip-hop and country music weekend as hometown rocker Vince Neil leads his Motley Crue and KISS into Mandalay Bay Events Center for Saturday’s double-header rock and pyrotechnic spectacular. A third group -- Britain’s the Treatment -- is the opening act.
“Home sweet home,” said Vince as he arrived home Thursday after a string of sold-out shows in the Southwest. The rockers head to San Diego on Sunday.
KISS frontman Gene Simmons’ KISS by Monster Mini Golf will welcome the group. KISS fans will get to meet the Treatment up close and personal, and original KISS album cover artist Ken Kelly will be signing autographs and drawings. All Hard Rock Cafes in Las Vegas are saluting Gene, and he’ll be at Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
There’s even more noise this weekend from rapper Pitbull (Armando Cristian Perez on his birth certificate) at the Red Rock Resort Amphitheater followed the next night there by Toby Keith. It’s a country and heavy metal shootout between Toby and Crue-KISS. Raise those red solo cups!
Our nightclubs are filled with parties and performers galore for the next 72 hours, but there’s also going to be a lot of spotlight on Julia Child. If she was still with us, Julia would be turning 100.
As the woman held in the highest regard for bringing modern French cuisine and chefs to our shores and starting the culinary revolution in America with her book “Mastering the Art of French Cuisine,” Julia is still respected and revered as the queen of the profession. She died at her Santa Barbara, Calif., home two days before her 92nd birthday in 2004 this week.
Watch her wield that blow torch on “Late Night With David Letterman.”
Chefs all around town have special dinner menus paying tribute to her, and a group of our culinary stars taking part in chef Wolfgang Puck’s massive L.A. Food and Wine Festival also will honor Julia. Recommendations: chef Andre Rochat’s dinner at his Monte Carlo and Palms restaurants and Michel Richard’s Central 24/7 at Caesars Palace.
