How kould we resist the headline? (Still, it’s a bit much, we know!) Khaos is about to erupt, but reality TV star Kim Kardashian is battling chaos of another kind as the klan’s lifestyle boutique celebrates its soft opening here this morning at the Mirage.

If Kim, mom Kris Jenner and sisters Khloe and Kourtney had been expected back on The Strip today about a week after Kim was here celebrating her 31st birthday at Marquee at the Cosmopolitan, those plans went up in smoke yesterday morning.

The headline news went around the world that Kim’s 72-day marriage to NBA star Kris Humphries, most recently with the New Jersey Nets and now a free agent, was over. One of Hollywood’s most public -- publicity and reality show-driven -- unions had crashed and burned.

Kim, who was married once before for four years, tweeted: “I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don’t work out as planned. This was not an easy decision.” Kris, who was at Marquee with Kim for her birthday, said he only learned about the decision to “kall it kwits” from TMZ.

He said he wants to honor and show respect to their vows and work on saving the marriage, resolving whatever the problems are that exist. TMZ posted a video of the couple fighting last week in L.A. when he left her expensive British auto and drove away in his own car.

The locked-out NBA athlete said he was “blindsided” that Kim had filed for divorce. She was partying over the weekend at Lavo in New York, hosting the Midori Green Halloween party without Kris, as the L.A. divorce court papers were filed. The split isn’t stopping Khaos’ opening or Season 2 of Kim & Kourtney Take New York on E! Entertainment this month.

The grand gala celebration for Kardashian Khaos with the family here is scheduled for early next month. Today’s soft opening is attracting fans all lined up and ready to shop and spend. Kardashian designer and Khaos co-founder Cici Bussey told me last night: “It looks fabulous. We are all done and ready. We are so proud to be here in Vegas at the Mirage. Dreams do come true. Something big is really happening, and this will go around the world.”

A photographer will shoot everything in neat order and on display for 30 minutes before the expected wild opening. Kim simply ignored the furor over the marriage bust-up and wrote on her Web site: “We are so excited to announce that our lifestyle boutique Kardashian Khaos opens today (Nov. 1) in the Mirage. It has arrived. My family and I love spending time in Vegas, so this project just gives us an excuse to go back, LOL. I can’t wait for you guys to see the store. It’s going to look great!”

The Kardashian Kollection includes everything from oversized beach towels with the girls’ images emblazoned on them to Las Vegas souvenir items of novelty cards and chips and makeup kits set out in gaming chip displays -- and even temporary tattoos. Yes, you can have Kim, Kourtney or Khloe’s face put anywhere your desire. Even mom is available.

“Never in my life did I think I would be made into a temporary tattoo. But never say never, right?! LOL,” she wrote on her blog.

Meantime, E! entertainment executives are huddling today to decide if there will be any further airings of the couple’s multimillion-dollar wedding two-part special filmed in Santa Barbara, Calif., just 10 weeks ago. They do plan, though, to show the beginnings of the marriage troubles in the reality series, which has Kim and Kris agreeing to “take a break” as part of the storyline.

Now that could mean a Season 3 reunion for the troubled twosome or a new romance altogether for Kim. She reportedly had lunch with ex-flame Reggie Bush, now with the Miami Dolphins, over the weekend.

I’d obviously hoped that Kim would be here this morning so we’d get the full story from her, but now that we know they’re not flying here, we’ll just have to wait for Saturday’s appearance by Kris at Chateau Nightclub & Gardens at the Paris. Hopefully he’ll spill some secrets that will just add to the chaos.

Be sure to check back to Vegas DeLuxe for that red carpet weekend coverage and for next month’s arrival of Kim and her family at the Mirage. Meantime, I’ll load up on Kardashian sheets and bedspreads and a couple of Kardashian kitchen kits -- and await the next development of the never-ending saga.
