It was mild mayhem when singer and America’s Got Talent winner Michael Grimm returned to his old stomping grounds of Ovation Lounge at Green Valley Ranch to celebrate the CD release for his first major album on Epic Records.
Michael performed a concert with a meet-and-greet post-show and was surprised onstage by friend and ex-boss Bill Medley of The Righteous Brothers. Michael and Bill performed Sam & Dave’s “Hummin’ ” that’s on Michael’s indie album Leave Your Hat On.
*Peepshow and Holly’s World star Holly Madison has named the two sloths that Wayne Newton gave her when she took an advance tour of his Casa de Shenandoah that opens for tours this year. Costa and Rica are named after their birthplace, and I erred in reporting that they’d live in her menagerie. They’ll stay in a habitat called Holly’s Sloth House at Wayne’s 30-acre venue where visitors can hold them.
*Congratulations to Jersey Boys, who celebrate their third anniversary at the Palazzo tomorrow. “Oh, what a night,” they could sing as a cake is wheeled onstage after their 7 p.m. show. There will be a Las Vegas-styled surprise that we’ll keep hush-hush. The award-winning Jersey Boys is the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
*Tomorrow is the unveiling of the $300,000 Johnny Depp Pirates of the Caribbean wax figure at the canal outside Madame Tussauds at the Venetian. Several pirates will guard the figure of Captain Jack Sparrow from their gondolas. Pirates of the Caribbean: Stranger Tides opens May 20, and Las Vegas resident Danny Lopez is in high demand for promotional appearances with the film as an uncanny lookalike.
*It’s been nearly a century since Titanic set sail, and now the fictional love story of Jack and Rose from Titanic is an inspiration for couples tying the knot. For $2,500, couples can start a new life together on the Grand Staircase of the RMS Titanic with 15 family and friends at the exhibit at the Luxor. Included in the tab are photos of the ceremony, champagne on the Promenade Deck and bouquets and boutonnieres. It’s an affair to remember, and don’t forget to have Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On” playing.
*Former President George W. Bush and his military commander Colin Powell reportedly reunited yesterday here as guest speakers at a private convention marking their first speaking engagements since the death of Osama bin Laden.
*Old Vegas is returning to the Strip with the launch of a showcase at Starlite Theater at the Riviera, the one-time home of An Evening at La Cage. A phalanx of my friends is debuting there. Rich Little kicks it off May 25, followed by Mary Wilson, Connie Stevens (who once jumped in a hot tub with me in her evening gown!), 5th Dimension and David Brenner. Additionally, the era will be re-created with Gary Lewis & The Playboys and Al Jardine’s Endless Summer Beach Party with Beach Boys songs. Animal illusionist Rick Thomas moves from the Sahara to the main showroom as of July 1, and it will be renamed Rick Thomas Theater.
Actor Tom Felton, Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter films, dined at N9NE Steakhouse in the Palms, as did singer Kelly Osbourne and pro snowboarder Louie Vito. Papa Roach bass player Jacoby Shaddix partied upstairs at Ghostbar, and singer Ke$ha and Bridget Marquardt lounged in cabanas at Palms Pool. Floyd Mayweather Jr. partied at Marquee at Cosmopolitan to the sounds of DJ Eric D-Lux, while Bobby Brown took in the sunshine at Marquee Dayclub. Daytime TV host Steve Wilkos (CW Vegas, noon daily) surprised wife Rachelle Wilkos, executive producer of The Jerry Springer Show, with another Las Vegas getaway, their second this year. They watched their first fight -- Manny Pacquiao vs. Shane Mosley -- while in town.
Extreme Makeover: Home Edition host Ty Pennington is working with the Sears Blue Tool Crew to build a wheelchair ramp at a Las Vegas home. Singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile performs tracks from her album Give Up the Ghost at Hard Rock Cafe on the Strip. And SkyBlu of LMFAO is the solo guest DJ at Surrender at Encore.
Which music star is joining the handsome hunks of Chippendales for the next month? We’ve got the answer, plus the overnight results of the kitchen showdown with Chefs Alex Stratta and Mary Sue Milliken on Top Chef Masters.
