If pop princess Britney Spears films her new MTV special at the Palms on Friday -- as planned for now -- it will be thanks in part to the efforts of 22-year-old UNLV student Jordan Miller. This means that Britney will be in competition against Lady Gaga, who is in concert at MGM Grand Garden Arena on Friday.
Jordan, a journalism and media studies major, runs Britney’s top fan Web site BreatheHeavy.com, with more than 7 million page views. He says that she’ll appear live. Although Britney and her manager Larry Rudolph are close friends with Palms head honcho George Maloof, it’s Jordan’s Web site that’s dishing out the free tickets for the MTV shoot. (Note: You have to apply for an e-ticket to gain entry.)
Britney, who is taping an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show today to air next Tuesday, releases her CD Femme Fataleon Tuesday in tandem with the MTV special's telecast. The album includes her hit “Hold It Against Me,” plus new tracks “Criminal,” “Inside Out” and “Til the World Ends.”
There were rumors that Britney would be at The Bank at the Bellagio this weekend, but that was shot down by Larry. Then MTV issued a casting notice for fans to win the Palms tickets, which are being distributed by Jordan to members of Britney’s fan site for her appearance. Previews of the album’s 12 tracks can be heard at AOL Music.
Wicked whispers & racy rumors
An interesting contract wrangle faced Kim Kardashian when she flew in to surprise brother Rob Kardashian at his 24th birthday at Stack and Jet at the Mirage. She couldn’t walk the red carpet with Rob or sister Khloe because of her contract with a rival nightclub group that has her celebrating Kourtney’s 31st birthday with Khloe on April 24 at MGM Grand’s Wet Republic. Former Caesars Palace headliner Cher isn’t going country, as several rumors boasted, but she is preparing for a new dance album, which might be recorded in Nashville this year. There’s also buzz from Cher herself that she might go out on tour this summer, with a stop in Phoenix. The management groups that operate the rival Encore Beach and Surrender and XS and Tryst are teaming up to present the residencies of DJ Steve Aoki and rising star Feed Me to have them appear at all four venues. Steve’s first Monday night appearance at XS on top of his yearlong residency at Surrender is April 4.
