Clear Channel Radio is officially launching its new service iHeartRadio in a big way -- with a two-day concert Sept. 23-24 at MGM Grand Garden Arena hosted by American Idol’s Ryan Seacrest and featuring Lady Gaga, The Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay, Kenny Chesney, Alicia Keys, Rascal Flatts and Steven Tyler (minus Aerosmith).
The iHeartRadio Music Festival lineup includes artists who’ve received heavy airplay from Clear Channel’s radio stations, among them Usher, John Mayer, Jennifer Lopez, Nicki Minaj, Carrie Underwood, Jane’s Addiction, Sting, David Guetta, Bruno Mars, Kelly Clarkson, Sublime With Rome and more. Many of the artists also have performed and/or partied in Las Vegas in recent months.
Clear Channel is calling the two-day festival “the largest concert event in radio history” and will stream audio and video via iHeartRadio and through radio stations’ Web sites. The mega concert is part of Clear Channel’s plan to compete against Pandora Radio as it ramps up its online radio service to combine more than 750 of its broadcast radio and digital-only stations from 150 cities.
“Music is the heart of our business, and we think there is no better way to celebrate the launch of the new iHeartRadio than with a groundbreaking, multi-day festival featuring the world’s biggest, most exciting artists -- and reaching the largest combined U.S. radio and online audience ever,” Clear Channel Radio’s Media and Entertainment Platforms Chairman Bob Pittman said in a statement. “The new iHeartRadio will offer users a much broader, more integrated and customized digital listening experience than any other service available -- and it’s all in one product.”
The iHeartRadio Music Festival lineup is: Sept. 23 -- Coldplay, Alicia Keys, The Black Eyed Peas, John Mayer, Carrie Underwood, Bruno Mars and Jane’s Addiction. Sept. 24 is Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, Steven Tyler, Kenny Chesney, Nicki Minaj, Rascal Flatts, Kelly Clarkson, David Guetta and Sublime with Rome.
The Sept. 24 performance distinguishes Sting and Usher as “special guest performances.”
