2011 Vegas Rocks! Awards

Rock’s superstars were in agreement that the Vegas Rocks! Awards are definitely here to stay as an annual fixture on the calendar. Vegas Rocks! magazine’s second annual awards at the Las Vegas Hilton was more star-studded, bigger and better in every respect than last year.

It was certainly one of the largest music red carpet events of the year and worthy of Grammy competition. More than 200 rock stars and celebrities paraded for the more than 100 media members -- photographers, reporters and videographers who lined the way to the Elvis Showroom. Inside, more than 1,000 fans packed the theater as Vegas Rocks! founder and Publisher Sally Steele hosted.

The night’s featured honorees and performers included Vince Neil, Steve Stevens, Josie Stevens, John 5, Sebastian Bach, Wayne Static, Lemmy Kilmister, Steven Adler, Slim Jim Phantom, Gilby Clarke, Little Anthony, Matt Sorum, Ron Jeremy, Frankie Moreno, 10-year-old Nik Kai, with Z’Nuff, Laura Croft, Carmine Appice, Gilbert Gottfried, Athena and Troy Patrick Ferre in the audience.

Sally told me: “Highlights of the event included a live performance of ‘Crazy Train,’ which was a tribute to Randy Rhoads. It featured John 5, Carmine Appice, Sebastian Bach, Dario Lorina and Sean McNabb. Then Sebastian and Steve Stevens took to the stage to perform ‘Whole Lotta Love’ when an unexpected singer strolled from the audience to sing the song -- none other than Vince Neil!”

Vince was honored with a Lifetime Achievement in Rock ’n’ Roll Award presented by Sally. The Motley Crue singer, who attended with Las Vegas makeup queen Rain Andreani and Las Vegas model Hope McBain, said, “Sally looks so hot that I’m taking her home with me after the show!” No comment yet from Sally on what happened after the curtains came down!

Another highlight included porn prince Ron Jeremy and rocker Frankie Moreno as they presented an award. Ron picked up Frankie and put him over his shoulder and carried him fire rescue-style to the stage! There was a tribute to rock guitar legend Jimi Hendrix in an all-star lineup for the grand finale of his hit “Fire.”

Thanks to photographers Bryan Steffy of WireImage, Justin Koteff of Red Flame Photos, FullMetalRock.com, Chas Kreuter, Billy Ward and Betty Fitzgerald for their contributions to this report, as well as to Richard Corey for his videos posted on YouTube.

Sally summed up: “I was really happy that so many of my favorite artists came out to celebrate my publication’s seventh anniversary to make it an amazing rock royalty-filled event. It was truly a historic night in rock ’n’ roll for Las Vegas! One thing I can say is that it might be hard to top this show next year -- but we will!”
