I am the guardian of a locked silver steel case that contains the boldest prediction to date by The Amazing Kreskin, the world’s foremost mentalist who performs regularly here on The Strip. More than a year ahead of November 2012’s elections, Kreskin has recorded his predictions of the Republican Party nomination and the presidential winner.
Four of us are guarding the four lockboxes that contain the identical predictions: comedian and talk show host Jimmy Fallon; Chef Sal Scognamillo, owner of New York’s Patsy’s (Kreskin’s favorite restaurant in The Big Apple -- also Frank Sinatra’s, incidentally); and Jessie Frees and Julie Briggs, his favorite N.J. hometown broadcast team.
We’ll open them the morning after the results are announced, and they’ll remain in our possession until then. Kreskin appeared on Jimmy’s show last week and presented him with his lockbox that will remain on camera display until November 2012. Mine, which was delivered by bonded courier, is secured in a secret private vault with a combination known only by me.
Kreskin told me: “I spent a total of 28 hours preparing my prediction for the 2012 presidential election. I am very certain that I am correct and stand by this prediction. There’s no turning back now!” Kreskin predicted the 2004 Canadian presidential election winner and the 2008 U.S. presidential election winner. There has been a misunderstanding in that he is being quoted as saying the GOP candidate will win the presidency. In truth, he has predicted the GOP candidate and separately which of the two candidates will win.
*Talk show titan Oprah Winfrey has chosen Oct. 1 to premiere the 90-minute Celine Dion special Three Boys & a New Show on her cable TV network OWN. The special is an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at Celine juggling motherhood with her twins Nelson and Eddy and first son Rene-Charles and working alongside husband Rene Angelil to launch the new Caesars Palace show.
“Celine is not only a dynamic performer, but she’s also an incredibly dedicated mother and wife,” said Lisa Erspamer, OWN’s executive VP for production and development. “I’m very excited about our new show and so happy to be able to work with Oprah in the early stages of her new network,” Celine said. “What she’s doing is amazing, and I’m honored to be a small part of it.”
*Superstar female impersonator Frank Marino has stunned fans with his decision after 26 years of performing as Joan Rivers that he’s phasing out the character and performing solely as himself. Frank has been honored with many awards in Las Vegas, including being the only entertainer with two stars on the Las Vegas Walk of Fame; a street named in his honor; his own official day (Feb. 1); and the key to the city, which were all given to him by former Mayor Oscar Goodman. However, there is one thing he has yet to accomplish -- his own building wrap on The Strip.
That changes Aug. 19 when Imperial Palace, home of his show Divas Las Vegas, unveils a wrap. After 20,000 shows, 10 million audience members and 350,000 costume changes performing as Joan, Frank says he no longer feels it necessary to attach himself to another star. “When I was going into the business, I didn’t realize how hard it would be climbing the ladder of success … especially wearing high heels!” Frank said. The show, which opened at Imperial Palace in October 2009, has been extended through December 2012.
