The Situation at Sugar Factory
With a double reunion of Peepshow stars Mel B and Holly Madison and The Girls Next Door stars Holly and Kendra Wilkinson, with hubby Hank Baskett, plus an appearance by Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, star of Jersey Shore, the grand opening of the second Las Vegas Sugar Factory, this one in Planet Hollywood’s Miracle Mile, caused a fan frenzy.
It’s an amazing, overnight rock superstar phenomenon for The Situation because some fans waited seven hours at what became the most fun-derful event of the New Year to date.
Crowds thronged the new store and lined up in the hundreds hoping to snap photos of or get autographs with Holly, Kendra and The Situation, along with Scary Spice, who launched her line of Couture Pops. Mel’s new lines of sweet taste treats follows in the footsteps of Couture Pop designers Britney Spears, Kim Kardashian and the Pussycat Dolls.
I literally fought my way through the jam-packed crowds to join them all, along with our contributing photographers Erik Kabik and Scott Harrison and videographer Richard Corey for our photo galleries and video coverage. Holly’s Peepshow cast mate Josh Strickland and Holly’s World co-stars Laura Croft and Angel Porrino also attended the opening.
Kendra Wilkinson & Hank Baskett
New parents and Kendra stars Kendra and Hank, a wide receiver with the Super Bowl XLIV runners-up the Indianapolis Colts, were celebrating their first Valentine’s Day as a married couple. He told me that he’d arranged to have 10 dozen roses waiting in his MGM CityCenter suite when Kendra checked in for her Las Vegas visit. Erik spotted the newlyweds at Vdara’s Silk Road over the weekend, and we posted his photo gallery yesterday.
“I had two dozen come from our 2-month-old son Hank Jr.,” he told me. “And eight dozen from me. It’s the first time we’ve been away from the baby, and I knew she would miss him badly. I had my parents who are looking after him send us a different photo every hour on my cell phone so Kendra would know all was well, but every time I showed her the next new photo, she would cry!”
It’s obvious Kendra and Hank are very much in love because they were basically connected at the hips and stole affectionate kisses with each other despite the crowds and other stars watching. He also took Kendra off to a nearby Bakers Shoes and bought three pairs for his wife and happily chatted to other customers while she tried on shoes.
Kendra took time out to conduct a Stripper 101 class at the nearby V Theater in the Miracle Mile. Contributing photographer Scott Harrison was there to capture her spins around her custom-made stripper pole, which is now on sale at the classes.
Here is The Situation
Meantime back at the Sugar Factory, “My life has become totally insane the past few weeks,” The Situation told me. Mike was back in Las Vegas for the second time in two weeks. “I’d never been here in my life before. I’d like to come back when I can really get to see it and play it,” he laughed, explaining that his popularity has exploded so much that he fears his luggage lost at McCarran was actually heisted by souvenir-seeking fans!
“I’m here in Vegas with just what I’m standing in, and we’re in the middle of 20 cities in 10 days, so somebody’s going to have to go shopping to keep up with this. It’s crazy, and I can’t believe what’s happening to me. It’s a whirlwind. I know I’m in Vegas because I was here two weeks ago for a night at Jet, but the other cities are vanishing in a blur.”
He greeted hundreds of fans and spent 90 minutes signing autographs on his rapidly produced glossy headshot. Mike served up Valentine’s Day lollipops to his fans and even took a box of pops and gave one to each of the photographers and reporters lining the red carpet. At one point, after cheers and screams of encouragement from fans, he unbuttoned his shirt to give the crowd a glimpse of his six-pack abs.
I heard positive rumblings that Jersey Shore will keep its success going next season when the MTV show spreads its wings to show Miami how to do it up Jersey style. Mike told me that he was solo for Valentine’s Day.
“Even if I wanted to be with somebody special, there’s no time. I was in Atlantic City last night. I’m in Las Vegas tonight -- just flew in. We fly out either tonight or early tomorrow for some other place. I’ve lost track. How can you have a date at that speed? There are a lot of ladies out there, but it’s hard to find a special someone. Back home, my glass is always half full, but I just haven’t found that right one yet.”
Holly’s back in town
Holly had returned from hosting a huge party in Dallas after a seven-day photo shoot in Mexico for her 2011 calendar. She told me that she’d also been there filming for her new E! reality TV series Holly’s World and told me to be prepared to resume my guest shots after March 1 when cameras roll again here. That’s the same day that the newly revamped version of Peepshow begins at Planet Hollywood.
Holly, who went off to do volunteer work at a local animal shelter where she’d rescued a dog, managed to squeeze in yoga lessons last night. She also told me the two weeks of rehearsals for the new show with Cheaza as Peep Diva start today.
Holly, who bought Sugar Factory candy necklaces, said that all the original cast is back and that there will be a couple of new song and dance routines. As far as she knows, only one scene -- the cheerleader routine to Christina Aguilera’s “Ain’t No Other Man” -- has been cut.
As crowds massed on the Sugar Factory, additional Miracle Mile security was brought in because of the frenzy for The Situation.
He had the last word for me: “I just hope I still get to keep the only clothes I’ve got at this moment. They’re grabbing at everything -- and I mean everything.”
