Dear Everyone,
I am a graduate of the American education system, and I am mad as hell. My family came to America as immigrants this century. My father and mother labored to start lives here for themselves and for their family. They raised us to live on meager funds, and to never want for anything material. However, they raised their children to pursue college educations as a way for us to be better than the generation before. They engrained in us that education would separate us, and allow us to pursue the American Dream that they had moved thousands of miles from their homeland to give to their children.
I, like everyone else graduating in the past decade, have seen the cost of American education rise drastically and yet suffered cutbacks to our federal funding. Many of us had to turn to private lending to fill in the gaps, or leave school.
I have heard the cry of students that are drowning in student debt, and I think there must be a better way. This is America, and we just had Barack Obama use the internet in a way that proved that as a community, we are one and united to make things right when they are wrong.
I believe that we can get the word out about this website.
I believe that we can all donate what we can to help bail out students.
I believe that we can help students who are suffering under the weight of huge student loans.
I believe that students need to express their stories and be heard.
Therefore, I ask that everyone participates and brings this new concept to fruition with me. I plan on collecting donations to disseminate out to any student that share their story with us. All stories submitted will be posted to the blog - be passionate, be honest, and be united that you are not alone in your suffering.
Thank you.
