The way the clarification (on www.getdownpayment.com) currently reads is that if a buyer is "credit approved" prior to October 1, 2008, that buyer will be able to close, using DPA, regardless of the closing date. Credit approved means that the underwriter has signed the MCAW or the FHA Loan Underwriting and Loan Transmittal.
Although this is important information, I am hoping that it will be irrelevant. I went to www.DPAGroundswell.org and sent an email to my elected officials letting them know I am a voter and I support DPA.
And now, the bill introduced by Representatives Maxine Waters, Gary Miller, Al Green and Christopher Shays on July 31, 2008, that would reinstate SF-DPA, has passed the House of Representatives' Financial Services Committee. If it continues to progress, passes, and is signed into law, the FHA Seller-Financed Downpayment Reform and Risk-Based Pricing Authorization Act of 2008 (H.R. 6694) will allow downpayment assistance to continue indefinitely.
