VegasHeat you are clueless....I'm thinking you must be from the "new" private sector membership--the members duped by the Mcalevey spin. Don't think for one minute that Jane "stepped down" under her own power. Just shows how much members really know how this union works. The real key to making this happen was the cooperation of Hedderman, who was ELECTED, not once but many times, by the members. If she hadn't agreed to step down, then the deal would have been off....Jane, on the other hand, a member of the INTERNATIONAL board, works under the direction of Stern......duh....Jane was TOLD to sign the resignation VegasHeat--you think that woman would have given up her "reign of power" under her own volition....davidhp knows what he's talking about and it's about time some of you "members" need to start surfing the web to find out what's going on in SEIU all over the country. It's POWER and MONEY--it's not about what MEMBERS want or need..they'll sell you out for the right to organize somewhere else...pull your head out of the clouds and gather some REAL facts...but beware when reading anything SEIU puts out...they are notorious for "spinning" the truth..get on some of the other sites; like union democracy or labor notes...my eyes are WIDE OPEN-time yours are too.

I find the comments interesting and it didn't take long to see that the "nurses"speaking above sound like they are the "newly organized" who haven't got a clue what a "union" is suppose to do for its' members. As a long time union member I've said for a long time something ain't right in River City...know what you all have gained?? Maybe an increase in salary but not much else. Hospital workers--how's that "good" staffing? Lots of words written in that contract of yours but not much done to really effect change in how many patients you're taking care of, now is there? Treated better by the boss when you complain about having too many sick patients to take care of? Union done anything about that? County workers, don't forget about that SB544 and how your union hammered the Legislative Session to protect retiree healthcare. I think I remember hearing that it just wasn't a "priority" for your "visionary" McAlevey-but then pretty much anyone not working in hospitals just pay their dues and haven't seen the "visionary" do anything for them. I do have to say that there are some old time union members that have fought the good fight to protect the workers (I'd have to give Hedderman some cudos for that one)..but McAlevey--her vision is organize, organize and then leave them to fend for themselves...after all, we shouldn't expect that our daily issues are important--only our money...I, for one, want a union that cares that my contract language isn't being followed and then DOES something about it! Unity? You've got to be kidding me.....the "visionary" is still lurking in the closet, pulling the strings, that is until the Department of Labor throws her in jail for all the corruption she's brought to your local.

The real issue here is Jane McAlevey. It isn't the union you belong to, it's about what that union can do to make your work life better. The reality is that both SEIU and CNA have their shortcomings--as my mother use to say, "the grass isn't always greener on the other side"...bottom line: McAlevey's inept ability to understand the needs of her members is why we are where we are. She's just been too busy trying to make a name for herself and not paying any attention to the day to day things that are happening to members; not just at St Rose but every place SEIU represents people. A union is nothing (even CNA) without members staying involved, participating and fighting for what they need....cudos to those SEIU members who have taken alot of grief for standing up and fighting back against a corrupt Executive Director and her staff--those are the type of members that help make any union an organization worth being in......I'd just like to see SEIU get back on track fighting/representing all the members--today, tomorrow and forever!

McAlevey doesn't think the nurses are unhappy at St. Rose? Well, obviously 425 of them were! She's the only one responsible for all the internal strife in Local 1107...nothing will change for the better until that self proclaimed messiah gets back on her horse and rides off into the sunset! Hurrican Jane-let's hope you blow right out of Vegas and SOON before the entire Local self implodes!
