Las Vegas' success was always based as a fantasy destination - providing visitors experiences they could not find in their own home town. When resort developers lurched to the high end and took advantage of the false wealth bubble, that is when all the problems began - resorts were built (or designed then halted before completion) for a market that no longer exists. Strangely, people will get on an airplane to see a copy of the Eifel Tower or a pyramid, but not a 'city center'. Vegas would have had continuing success if they would have kept on the track of building themed international icons, rather than homogenized non-descript glass and steel towers exclusively filled with high priced rooms, restaurants, clubs, shows and shops. When is the market coming back? NEVER...operators need to manage for a 2-4% annual revenue increase and forget about the false wealth bubble.
All government salaries must be reduced to the same average levels we pay our military personnel - about $22,00 per year. No government job is more valuable than that of someone willing to die for freedom. All government employee health care plans must also mirror the military - the VA. Any talk about "cuts" is lip service and meaningless when you view our upside-down compensation scale: Government on top (Avg. salary $74K), tax payers (Avg. salary $54K), and military on the bottom. No system will prosper that has the civil 'servants' making more than the citizens they supposedly 'serve'.
That's what happens when you play class warfare and strip earned property from the 'rich' = they find loopholes, move themselves and/or their wealth out of the country to places they are appreciated and can be more productive. This has been happening for decades. Want to keep wealth in the USA and spur foreign investment? Create a competitive business environment and let people keep what they earn = smaller government and less regulation.
Is solar power going to cost me more, or less, than existing forms? If Harry would allow homeowners to install solar panels on the roof, plug into the grid and get a monthly credit from NV Energy for the power generated, now we would have a real difference maker - but too much loss of control for the government in that scenario.
